Licenses

Motorcycle license: A1, A2 & A

From 125cc to unrestricted bikes: we show you which class fits your age and how to move up later.

At a glance

A1
from 16 · up to 125 cc and 11 kW
A2
from 18 · up to 35 kW
A
from 24 directly, or from 20 after 2 years of A2
Special drives
12 × 45 min for a first license: 5 country roads, 4 motorway, 3 night

Move up step by step

  • A1 → A2

After 2 years of A1, a practical exam is enough, with no mandatory special drives.

  • A2 → A

The same after 2 years of A2: just a practical exam.

  • With a car license

If you already hold class B, you need fewer theory lessons.

How it works

  1. Register & apply

Submit an eye test, first-aid course and passport photo to the licensing authority.

  2. Theory

Attend lessons and pass the theory exam at TÜV.

  3. Riding lessons

Basic manoeuvres on the training ground first, then roads and special drives.

  4. Practical exam

Basic manoeuvres and the exam ride at TÜV.

Frequently asked questions

Which class is right for me?

Mainly your age decides: A1 from 16, A2 from 18, A directly from 24. We are happy to advise you.

Can I do car and motorcycle at the same time?

Yes. The general theory then counts for both classes.
